Taking this class has opened my eyes to the value of technology in the classroom, therefore I have had my eyes opened to those teachers that do not. I notice my students so much more comfortable on the computers. No more "Type to Learn" or "Harcourt Math". Now we work with Microsoft Publisher creating persuasive brochures, PowerPoint for classroom presentations, and of course MovieMaker where we recently completed a digital summary of the novel Tuck Everlasting.
I recently went to my principal after witnessing many students either abandoning their computer lab time or using it for just writing a paper. I explained to her that we need to remove the "dinosaur mentality" and get these teachers tech-savy! We are now planning a staff meeting based solely on getting teachers comfortable with other programs besides Microsoft Word. This class has given me a new realationship with technology and I want to spread my knowledge so that others can use these "new" tools as well!

I have two classes...night and day! I am going to start my propsed activities with my homeroom. They are much better behaved and much better at following directions. I have been slacking in integrating the video camera into my classroom, mostly because I had some personal sicknesses this year which have caused me to miss alot of school.
However, Ben and I have already beeen discussing ways to use digital storytelling in the classroom, and get the students use to the camera. We are going to do an on- camera interview with his 6th graders acting as the interviewers, and my 5th graders answering the questions. I am also waiting on photo story to be downloaded onto the computers at school. I want my kids to do an activity with this program and the book we are reading, Tuck Everlasting.
Once we get our technology gliches taken care of, and my health restored, I know that we wil be successful in the digital age!
